He is talking about two things in this section: 1. Realisation that churches did not need to hear more critical discussion/education in what the academy was interested in but needed to hear more about salvation. 2. That he realised the depth of his sin and the holiness of God.
How I interpreted it was: 1. He turned from being a nominal Christian to someone who really believed the Gospel actively. 2. He stopped choosing to be enamoured by the kind of vague weak love we all know, but became someone who God chose to forgive despite his sin.
In one sense he moved to being acted upon, in another became active in his faith.
could you expand? what does he mean?
